Now That There’s a DA Election, Gun Prosecutions Have Gone Back Up

Interesting, no?

Gun prosecutions finally climbed back up over 200 cases in April

Gun prosecutions finally climbed back up over 200 cases in April

Nearly all of last year I had been lamenting a very disturbing drop-off in the level of gun charges filed by the District Attorney’s Office. Statistics compiled by this website’s Courtwatch system have revealed something interesting:  gun prosecutions by the DA’s office have shot back up.

Courtwatch has found that in April there were 243 criminal cases filed where at least one or more VUFA charges appeared on the criminal docket for Philadelphia adults.   Some cases filed against minors are also included in the statistic since state law does not mandate that courts seal criminal dockets of minors when the charges are heinous.

April’s data is not only a marked improvement over 2016 but 2015 as well.

There also happens to be an election in a couple weeks to determine who the next District Attorney is.

And Trump has also mentioned Philadelphia’s (slowly but surely) rising homicide rate.

And at least one of the candidates (Beth Grossman) has mentioned the VUFA drop-off as being worrisome.

Makes ya think.
