Today in Philadelphia: AVI Salvation

The the “tax surprise” has been delayed for next year after OPA assessments come out.   I have to congratulate City Council in doing the right thing by adopting Mark Squilla’s plan to hold the tax calculation switch until the City knows exactly what it thinks every property is worth (it won’t have its first real estimate until August/September).

That doesn’t mean a shock is not coming of course, but it does mean that taxpayers will have a chance to estimate their taxes better if they know what their assessments are and whether they are on target or way out of whack.
