Just hearing about Joan Krajewski passing away.  She was the 6th District Councilwoman over Mayfair, Tacony, Wissinoming and Holmesburg.

A petite lady, she had a Frank Rizzo personality that was certainly disarming if not downright authoritarian.  Before retiring from office, Councilwoman Krajewski joined in the fight against The Healing Way methadone clinic.

After retiring from her post she has been succeeded by Councilman Bobby Henon.  She was aged 79.

Remember Club Aura in Northern Liberties that I hope I would have to never write about any more?   Well, Philadelinquency will soon be headed to Federal court at 6th and Market over it.

This is my take on this case, since I’m one of the defendants mentioned:   It wasn’t a secret while owner Marc Stein was trying to get a SAOL permit and operate without it that Club Aura wasn’t being very neighborly.  Taking the neighborhood and all who have written about the Club Aura escapade to Federal Court to exact revenge isn’t going to win over any hearts and minds in Northern Liberties, much less the 6th Police District or the City of Philadelphia.

Throughout the Federal complaint no substantive mentions were ever made of the shooting that occurred outside Club Aura.

As this case is total bullshit, and a SLAPP suit if I ever saw one, Philadelinquency has retained representation of Philadelphia’s pre-eminent First Amendment rights attorney A. Jordan Rushie and nationally-renowned First Amendment attorney Marc J. Randazza to represent myself and the Philadelinquency blog on this case.  Incidentally, both attorneys are also representing Kate Gosselin of TLC’s TV reality show Kate+8.

Welcome to a curious case of grandfathering in Philadelphia’s zoning code.  This was once a Polish literary society but somewhere it went off the rails.   This is probably the 3rd or 4th attempt at a sex club in this location (the last time it was Club Trapeze).

Back when PhiladelphiaWeekly attempted to run hard-hitting local stories, they pieced together the backstory behind this strange building.

Club Trapeze wasn’t too popular and its South Floridian owners gave up and put the building up for sale last winter.  Now it’s back in business run out of Atlantic City, using the Salmon Street building as its base in Philly.   Curiously enough, the area around the club is more dense than a few years ago and there’s new homes and fresh rehabs popping up on this block.  The Italian BYOB EATalia is around the corner.

Parking is tight on Salmon Street, so if you’re Jersey trash looking to visit the sex club because obvs you can’t get anybody to do the Jersey Turnpike to you, be sure to park in the rear.  Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

If you read anything today, let it be another awesome article at AxisPhilly by Solomon Jones detailing all the L&I violations the City itself is racking up with City-owned blight.

The response from the City and the Redevelopment Authority shouldn’t be “yeah we know it’s a problem,” but… “these are our plans for ridding ourselves of this problem.”

Oh, let us list the number of ways vacant lots can be re-used:

  • Sell to housing and commercial developers (because we need more housing)
  • Urban gardening
  • Private parks – owned by neighborhood organizations
  • Side lots
  • “Undeveloping”, which is turning over larger assembled tracts to wildlife parks, forestation, removing the street grid and using the land for stormwater abatement.  [Something the City should consider doing to the Logan Triangle via eminent domain]

The current approach the City has been taking is warehousing property.  Getting parcels out of the City’s hands has been met with varying levels of resistance.  We’re on our 3rd try at turning over vacant land to side yards ever since Mayor Wilson Goode approved of the idea in the 1980s (I call each attempt Side Lot I, II and III).

Philadelphia has a fixed number of taxable properties.  Warehousing property, especially in areas where there’s brisk market activity, starves the City of potential revenue to pay for schools and City employee pensions.  City Council knows this.  Whether or not the political will to stop warehousing and change to a more fluid model of public property disbursement is yet to be seen.

We’re still waiting for that Land Bank.

Today was Point Breeze Organizing Committee’s celebration and demonstration of and for affordable housing; and also the pillorying OCF Realty and its owner, Ori Feibush.

This week PBOC distributed this flyer (below), in which Paragraph 7 the group states that 1) I created a video from the hacking group Anonymous.  I did not.   I am not Anonymous.  Most people know who I am.

And 2) that I created a Facebook persona called “Joey Doe” that has been harassing the Newbold Neighbors Facebook page.

This flyer was distributed through residents mail slots and into mailboxes around Point Breeze on blocks located close to 20th and Federal, the site of the OCF Coffee Shop.

Clearly this group has a problem figuring facts from fiction and has no problem conflating the two.  Paragraph 7 of the above statement is absolutely, 1,000% positively blatantly false and is outright, naked and unabashed defamation of myself and Philadelinquency.

They know it and most of my long-time readers know it.  We will have to see if this new organization in Point Breeze is willing to prove these statements in a courtroom, as there’s no way it can be verified in Vimeo videos of organizers staring angrily into cellphone cameras.

Mindy Isser and Gary Broderick are core founders of the Point Breeze Organizing Committee.  Stapled together with an announcement identifying their organization and brain trust was this libelous page aforementioned.

Philadelinquency knows the following about Mindy Isser:

In March 2013, Mindy Isser purchased 1605 S 19th Street, a house from Innova Redevelopment, LLC., a homebuilder which has been building housing in Point Breeze under the Neighborhood Stabilization Project II program meant to stymie the effects of foreclosure on impacted neighborhoods.

Mindy Isser then obtained a series of loans, one of which was from the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority (PRA).

Another source has informed me that Isser’s house on 19th Street has a 10 year tax abatement.

If I am understanding this correctly, Innova acquired the property from Mabel Atkins who sold the property to Innova in September of 2012, used the NSP2 program to then rehab the two story rowhome, then partially funded a mortgage via a lender in Reading, PA and the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority listing Mindy Isser as the counterparty on the note, then using all these sources of monies to buy the house from Innova, all for $150,000.00

Mindy Isser according to news reports works at Drexel University.

The 2013 Tax Year property taxes on 1605 S 19th Street:  $410.   The Office of Property Assessment has not yet updated its records to appropriately reflect exactly how much of its 2013 and 2014 property value is being abated.

Given PBOC’s highly distorting rhetoric, and in my case outright libelous outrageous claims, debating with this group in the public fora is useless.  I am not a homophobe as PBOC claims, I am not a racist as PBOC claims, and I am certainly not a member of the hacker group Anonymous as PBOC claims nor did I pollute Newbold Neighbors Association’s Facebook page with vitriol from a fake account, as PBOC claims.

Since the lies will not stop, I will file suit against the aforementioned parties in the Court of Common Pleas at the utmost urgency.
